Hello Wintergreen!

I’m a Wintergreen fan and have been enjoying seeing your recent growth and exploration of new product offerings and collaborations! As a garment sewist, there is one product I’d really like to see — Wintergreen designs available as sewing patterns or kits! As professional graphic designer, I’d love to work with you to make Wintergreen sewing patterns a reality if that’s something you’d consider.

In recent years I’ve observed multiple garment and product manufacturers begin offering their designs as sewing patterns, making more of their products available and accessible to more people (see examples below). As a sewist, it’s exciting to have the opportunity to make an item by a brand I already admire and trust to produce well designed and drafted patterns. Many companies making this move have a focus on quality, sustainability, and ethical production and/or a unique signature style — both qualitites I clearly see in Wintergreen.

Home garment and hobby sewing has grown a lot over the past few years with lots of new folks picking up the skill and participating in robust online and in-person communities to share projects and knowledge. While there are currently pattern companies that offer outdoor gear and apparel patterns (see examples below), Wintergreen products have a unique character and existing following that I think makes a great candidate for offering sewing patterns and/or kits.

I’ve got the design skills plus the sewing experience to be able to produce a sellable home sewing pattern sewists would love using. Let me know if you’d be interested in working together! If sewing patterns aren’t a possibility right now, let me know if you’d be open to working together on any other projects that may be a good fit. Thanks for your time!

Current Landscape

Existing pattern or supply companies in the outdoor/activewear market

Green Pepper Patterns

Outdoor Clothing & Accessories / Women / Men / Youth

Green Pepper offers sewing patterns for outdoor clothing and accessories for adults and children. A relatively well known company among longtime home sewists, they are not well known outside of the home sewing industry.

Thread Theory

Outdoor Clothing & Accessories / Women / Men

The market for sewing patterns for men is much smaller than the market for women’s patterns. Thread Theory is known for high quality mens wear patterns (both of their own line, and highlighting other quality men’s patterns). Many of their patterns are outerwear or outdoor friendly. They also provide women’s patterns on a smaller scale.

Jalie

Activewear / Women / Men / Youth

Jalie is known for providing quality sewing patterns in a wide range of sizes, many of which are activewear or outerwear patterns. Well respected and well known in the home sewing industry, but not the most current in terms of designs or marketing.

Rockywoods

Fabrics & Supplies for Activewear and Outdoor Clothing / Patterns

Rockywoods is an online fabric/notions store focused on outdoor, outerwear, and gear friendly fabrics and supplies. Their pattern shop mainly stocks Green Pepper Patterns.

Commercial Patterns

Outdoor Clothing & Accessories / Women / Men / Youth

Commercial pattern companies (McCalls, Butterick, etc.) have a vast catalog of patterns including womens, mens, and kids patterns for activewear, outerwear, and outdoor accessories. Patterns can be difficult to locate, especially if out of print. Commercial patterns are also not always the most beginner friendly.

Seattle Fabrics

Fabrics & Supplies for Activewear and Outdoor Clothing and Gear / Patterns

Seattle Fabrics sells marine, industrial, outdoor, recreational fabrics as well as notions and patterns for outdoor use. They carry patterns from a variety of makers but are not well marketed or promoted.
